The workshop is being organized by Cyberspace and Intellectual Property Foundation (CIPFO), an organization headquartered at New Delhi, India, formed with an aim to disseminate knowledge about the Cyberspace and Intellectual Property and is a fusion of Internet and intellectual property professionals .

Team Members Maninder Walia, Gurpreet Singh & Arun Bansal took the view of the latest technologies being showcased by the various National & International participants.

The focus of the 16th Convergence India was primarily on IPTV (internet protocol television) and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) backbone technologies.

There were number of chinese companies willing to set up base in India and were looking for preffered partners, distributes & franchisers to enter the market.

“{Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) says that whoever attempts to commit suicide and does any act towards the commission of such offence shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term, which may extend to one year.

The workshop was one of the first of its kind, that focused on key issues involving Domain Names and was organized to make people aware of their legal rights and liabilities associated with the domain names.

The four hour Techno Legal Interactive Workshop on Domain Names was successful in getting more than 80 attendees including lawyers, students & entrepreneurs.

In the opening remarks given by Ms. Sheetal Dang, Associate Attorney, Amarjit & Associates, the role of Cyberspace and Intellectual Property Foundation (CIPFO) activities was presented to the wide audience enumerating the CIPFO’s formation and future activities of the organization.

Mr. Gurpreet Singh, co-founder of CIPFO delivered the first presentation of introduction to the Domain Names and Domain Name System briefly outlining the various terminologies associated with the Domain Name and disputes arising thereof. He also touched upon Domain Name Management System that should be adopted by the individuals / companies while handling the Domain Name Portfolios.

Dr. Raman Mittal, Professor, Faculty of Law, Delhi University in the subsequent session, had given International Perspective about the Domain Name disputes and the Resolutions thereof. He explained in detail about Uniform Domain Name Resolution Policies (UDRP), their procedures and the evaluation thereof. He gave audience a broad overlook on International Case Laws decided by the World Intellectual Property Organization WIPO and other aspects of Cyber Squatting.

The third Session on Domain Name Dispute Resolution System in India was presented by Mr. Rishi Chawla, Advocate, who distinguished the basic differences between the UDRP and Indian Dispute Resolution Policy (INDRP) and its effects thereof.

The fourth session was presided by Mr. Amarjit Singh, Amarjit & Associates, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India. He was shared his vast experience as being panelist for World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and being the practitioner in the Courts as to which forum is better for the person, whose rights have been affected i.e. going for litigation or opting for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). He also covered the over all scenario starting from evolution of Trade Marks Law and shifting the paradigm of Trade Marks Law to the Domain Name and its system thereof.

Mr. Maninder Singh Walia, founder of www.cybersmart.in gave a presentation, which was mailed by the overseas delegate, who was not able to make for the event.

Subsequently, Ms. Aprajita Suman and Gaurav Barathi, Advocate presented their papers on Domain Name Dispute Resolution System, which was highly appreciated by the audience.

An interactive Q & A session followed thereof moderated by Mr. Maninder Singh Walia and the questions were put forward by the audience to the panelists about the e-mails being sent by Chinese Registrars, Tips for Domain Name Licensing Issues, Registering of Celebrities’ (Bollywood & Cricket) Domain Names, Domain Name and Trade Marks Rights, registration of generic names as Domain Names etc. to which the complete resolution was given by the panelists.
